There are certain things that can really brighten any day. You know the type…something happens and it keeps you smiling the entire day. Today was one of those days…something happened that just really made this day fun. And that thing was…

I bought a book today!!!

Books make me smile…or at least good books make me smile. Some books tend to have the opposite effect on me but the one I purchased today is a book I’ve wanted for a while. It is a new release and came out earlier this year…I’ve wanted it ever since it came out but I just couldn’t bring myself to pay $16.99 for a new book. Even though I wanted the book, I much prefer buying used copies at less expensive prices.

But as an end of the school year gift, one of my students gave me $25 Visa gift card. As Mom pointed out, I could use the gift card to purchase some books. I was thrilled with the thought!

I thought it would be great fun to pick books to purchase. (I figured I could get 2 books for $25.) So I got on my Amazon wish list went through the approxiamately 350 books that I want to purchase…someday when I’m inexhaustably wealthy. Anyway…I went through the list picking a few choice books and checking to see if our local Borders had the books in stock. Unfortunately, almost every book I really wanted, I would have to order. With $25 in my hand, I didn’t want to have to wait for a book to be ordered, delivered to the store, and then I would have to pick it up. When we’re dealing with books, I’m much too impatient for all that waiting!

Anyway, I knew at least one book I definitely wanted to look for and so we went to Borders to see what they had. I immediately headed toward the religion/theology section and Bonnie pointed out the book that I wanted. I picked up a copy and looked at it. What joy to hold a book! A book that I was actually considering purchasing! Sometimes I just have fun looking at books at Borders…but this time I was actually a buyer.

Anyway…I had one book…and I was almost positive that I wanted to get it. But before I purchased the book however, I have to be absolutely sure that is the book I wanted. So I held on to the book and browsed.

Let me tell you something…the religion/theology section at our Borders has gone severely downhill. The Catholic section seems to have grown while the Christianity section has seriously shrunk!

Anyway…I thought it would be easy to find another book to purchase but as the Christian section was smaller than it used to be, it turned out they did not have another book that I wanted to purchase.

So I was left with the first book I picked out. And here it is…

Do Hard Things

I’ve already begun reading and I am enjoying it.

So thinking about this book gives me cause to smile today.
